Pay Equity Assignment
The statistics in the table below were computed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. They represent the average earnings for full-time workers in the listed occupations during 1999.
The table contains information on the jobs with which we've been working in class. Your assignment is to take the job I've given you, find the earnings information requested for it in the table, then use that information to calculate the percentage of men’s earnings in that occupation made by women. Complete each step below, then turn in this sheet (with your completed work in the appropriate spaces). Please work as neatly and legibly as you can.
1. Write out the name of your assigned job.
2. On average, how much did men holding this job earn in 1999?
3. On average how much did women holding this job earn in 1999?
4. Subtract the male average from the female and place your answer in the appropriate box in the right-hand column of the table below. Show your work below and circle your final answer. If you use a calculator, write out the symbol on each button you pushed, in the order in which you pushed them. For example, if you were assigned All Occupations, you would write out: 32136 - 24596 = 7540. You would then circle 7540. If you do not use a calculator, show your complete subtraction process.
