Student Information Scavenger Hunt
Activity Instructions

  1. Explain to your students that they are about to have time to mingle among their classmates, talk to as many as possible, asking for a response to the criterion printed on their card.

  2. Give each student one of the index cards you've printed, or have each student select one at random from an open top box.

  3. Instruct students that they will have until 25 minutes before the class period ends to mingle, introduce themselves to each other and write down the names of those who meet the criterion printed on their card.

  4. Let the students go to work.

  5. Act as an observer, but not an active participant in their work.

  6. When the allotted time is up, have each student introduce one classmate s/he has found. The presenter should explain the item for s/he was looking, then give the name of one person who has not already been introduced who fits the criterion. Allow the student introduced to explain why s/he qualifies for the particular criterion, and let him/her answer any questions others might have.

  7. After all students have introduced one other person, if not all students have been introduced, return to the first introducer and have him/her introduce another who has yet to be introduced. Continue until all students in the class have had an opportunity to be introduced.

  8. Discuss any problems students had completing this task, how they resolved each problem, and how they might better resolve them in the future should they encounter them in similar activities.
